Obsession...behold they name is Mont Blanc!
So, it finally happened. The Pen fund of legend has been spent, for maybe two reasons. It had got up to an amount where even I began to get a little nervous about buying a pen with it, as opposed to doing something else, like, for instance building an extension to the house. The other is that Grace told me too. So, I had planned a trip out to assess the fund while my wife headed to IKEA to see a friend. Her friend wasn't well so it became a family trip to Nottingham! The pen fund stood at £225 at the start of the day and we had discussed yesterday that if we saw something for a reasonable price, my wife would contribute to it as my valentine's/birthday present. Arriving at Pen Sense, makes me understand totally the emotions of Augustus Gloop, when he entered Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. I feel his pain of all that chocolate and only one tummy. I see all those pens and feel like I would like the income of Simon Cowell, so I could build myself a house out of pens. My wife, while actually in the shop, while I was speaking to the assistant, called me a 'pen geek'. A) I am not a geek and B) They are writing instruments and not just pens!
So here it is, I went for the Mount Blanc Meisterstuck Chopin Fountain Pen with a fine Nib. I did try the extra fine nib but preferred the fine.
As an example of efficient packaging, this is not good. Though bizarrely as the Chopin pen is created as a homage to chopin. The Mont Blanc sponsored orchestra! recorded some works of Chopin, so I got a free CD of Chopin too. Always looking for a bargain me.
As you can see a lovely box, though I do wonder why they have never gone for the Liberace Homage. I can imagine the box now, plastered in Glitter and lots of Pink.
So here is the beast. Again, I admit, the box could have been a teeny- weeny bit smaller, than the one I got!
Note subtle shadowing. They had two different styles, both black resin but with a platinum finish or a gold finish. I bowed to the superior sense of style possessed by my wife, who preferred the gold, and Grace who preferred the Gold, ostensibly by waving her hands and squealing. This could though have meant no.
The fourteen carat Gold nib, each individually crafted and then Rhodian plated to protect from wear.
So the pen fund vanished in the blink of an eye, which had been going well for a year or so now. And even my wife tells me it's a joy to write with. It is the ferrari brand of the Pen world, the craftsmanship is amazing, truly and worth every penny and I managed to get 500 pennies back out of £300. It has always been a hope of mine that my daughter will love literature as much as I. And one day this pen will I think, if it lasts, belong to her, almost like a family heirloon, ha, you see what I did their, she'll be an heir and is a loon. geddit....heirloon!
Sadly, While in the shop, I did mention that I do like a rollerball at times, as I have a parker rollerball at present and I did ask which was the best maker of a quality rollerball and so ended up trying a cross rollerball. I have two cross pens already, a ballpoint and a retractable pencil set, so this would make the perfect addition.................................
